Travis Peak
Folks said,
“Who wants to live
on a razorback?”
Guess it depends
on your point of view.
Daddy had money,
but Mama was rich;
cash poor,
and Heiress of the hills.
It doesn’t turn a living,
but a few hold on;
After all, stubborn’s what buries
eight generations in the same ground.
Barefoot dirt road,
Ford, not Chevy;
Potluck luncheon,
A cedar-tree Christmas.
They never knew
the easier life got,
the harder it’d be
to stay alive.
