After the Holiday

It was a good day.

Are there still broken pieces?
Oh yes…

And yet –
Did your heart smile,
(Be it through tears?)

Did you take in grace,
Over broken bread
And wine?

Did the sun shine on your face
Through briefly parted clouds?

Did the hearth’s comfort
Heat the coals grown cold?

Did the children forget
To worry a while?

Then yes, Beloved,
Thank your Maker –
For it was a very good day,
Indeed.
